How to submit an editorial complaint
We take the accuracy and fairness of our reporting seriously. If you believe an article on DailyCity.co.uk contains a factual error, misrepresentation, omission or other editorial failing, you have the right to lodge a formal complaint. Complaints should be sent to complaints@dailycity.co.uk. This dedicated address ensures your concern reaches the correct team without delay.
What to include in your complaint
To help us investigate promptly and thoroughly, please provide as much of the following as possible:
- The full URL of the article in question (web address)
- Date of publication
- Why you believe the content is in error – be specific about the statement or omission you are challenging
- Your reasoning and any supporting evidence (documents, links, screenshots, official records or other reliable sources)
- Your full name and contact details (email address and/or phone number) so we can respond
Complaints without a clear basis or without contact information may not be processed. We treat all submissions confidentially and will not share your personal details without your consent.
How we handle complaints
We acknowledge receipt of every complaint within five working days. A member of the editorial team will review the issue and, where necessary, consult the reporter or editor responsible for the piece. Simple corrections – a misspelled name, a wrong figure – can often be resolved quickly. More complex complaints, particularly those involving matters of interpretation, balance or substantial factual dispute, may require additional review and can take longer.
Possible outcomes include:
- Correction – the error is fixed and a note added to the article
- Clarification – ambiguous wording is explained or updated
- Update – new information is added to reflect a change or provide context
- Removal – in rare cases where an article contains a serious and irremediable error, we may remove it
- No action – if we find the complaint is unfounded, we explain why in writing
In every case we will communicate the outcome directly to the complainant, with a clear explanation of the decision and any changes made.
Escalation to the Editor-in-Chief
If you are unsatisfied with the initial response, or if the complaint concerns a matter of serious editorial misconduct, legal risk or systemic failure, you may escalate it to Alexander Whitmore, Editor-in-Chief. Send your complaint – along with details of the earlier correspondence – to alexander.whitmore@dailycity.co.uk. Mr Whitmore will review all materials personally and issue a final determination within ten working days.
What this procedure covers – and what it does not
This complaints procedure deals exclusively with editorial content. For simple factual corrections – typos, minor data errors – please see our Corrections Policy. Matters relating to your personal data, privacy rights or data protection should be directed via our Privacy Policy. We also maintain a separate Editorial Policy that outlines our standards, sourcing and ethical principles. General contact and press inquiries can be sent through our Contact page.
DailyCity.co.uk is committed to transparency and accountability. We welcome feedback that helps us improve, and we will always respond honestly and constructively.
