Our Story

City Ledger Media Ltd. launched DailyCity.co.uk to fill a gap we saw across UK urban journalism: too much coverage was either breathless clickbait or impenetrable council jargon, with little in between that actually helped people understand how their city works. We founded the publication in 2024 because London and Britain’s major urban centres deserve a digital newsroom that connects the dots between a transport decision in City Hall, a housing policy in a borough planning committee, a new business district opening and the cultural life that makes a city worth living in. Our readers are people who live, work, run businesses and raise families in UK cities — they need clear, practical reporting that explains how local government choices, transport changes, property developments and economic shifts affect their daily lives, their communities and their opportunities.

Our editorial philosophy

Under editor-in-chief Alexander Whitmore, our editorial policy is built on a simple principle: city coverage should be concrete, trustworthy and useful. We do not chase algorithms or manufacture outrage. Every story we publish — whether a news brief, an explainer, a city guide, a transport update or a cultural review — must answer the question: what does this mean for people in this city? Alexander oversees editorial standards, source review, corrections and publication decisions personally, and he leads a team that treats every piece of journalism as a public good, not a commodity. Our editorial policy and sources and standards pages set out exactly how we work.

Our desk structure

We organise our newsroom around the beats that matter most to city life. Rebecca Haines, our managing editor, runs daily editorial planning, the publishing schedule and article commissioning. Daniel Mercer, urban affairs editor, covers city government, local councils, planning, housing, transport, public services, infrastructure, policing and urban policy across London and major UK cities. Olivia Hartley, business and economy correspondent, reports on the city economy, employment, retail, hospitality, property, commercial districts, startups and consumer finance. Sophie Kendall, culture and events editor, leads our arts, restaurant, nightlife, theatre, music, festival, exhibition and city guide coverage. Thomas Ellery, standards and fact-checking lead, ensures every piece of content meets our editorial standards through rigorous source verification, corrections review, rights checks and image attribution. Full biographies and contact details are on our our team page.

What readers can expect

Every article on DailyCity.co.uk carries a clear byline and source attribution. We do not publish anonymous opinion dressed as news. Our reporters conduct first-hand reporting — they attend council meetings, walk new transport routes, visit housing developments, test restaurants and review cultural events themselves. Our reviews are honest, independent and guided by our reviews policy, which prohibits any commercial influence on editorial verdicts. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently under our corrections policy.

Transparent funding

DailyCity.co.uk is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, content licensing, event and media partnerships, local advertising packages and city guide partnerships. All sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled, and affiliate links are disclosed in accordance with our advertising and affiliate disclosure. Commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions. Our ownership and funding page provides full details of our business model and revenue streams.
