Corrections Policy

Our commitment to accuracy

At DailyCity.co.uk, we take accuracy seriously. Our journalism is built on trust, and we know that even the most careful editorial process can sometimes allow an error to slip through. When that happens, we are committed to correcting it promptly, transparently and without equivocation. This corrections policy explains how we handle mistakes, how you can alert us, and what you can expect from us in return.

How to report a correction

If you spot an error in any of our articles – whether it’s a factual mistake, a misattributed quote, a misstated figure, or an omission that changes the meaning of a story – please let us know as soon as possible. The quickest and most direct way is to email our dedicated corrections address: corrections@dailycity.co.uk.

To help us process your request efficiently, please include:

  • The full URL (web address) of the article in question
  • A clear description of what you believe is inaccurate
  • Your source for the correct information, if available
  • Your name and contact details (optional, but helpful if we need to follow up)

You can also reach us via the general Contact page, but using the corrections address ensures your report reaches the right team fastest.

Our correction process

Every correction request is reviewed by our Standards & Fact-Checking team, led by Thomas Ellery. You can read more about Thomas and his role on our Our Team page. The team assesses the reported error against our editorial standards and source material. If the error is confirmed as material – that is, it significantly affects the accuracy, fairness or meaning of the article – we take the following steps:

  • Article update: We correct the mistake directly in the article text.
  • Correction note: We add a clear, dated note at the top or bottom of the article, reading: “Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated [issue]. The article was updated on [date].”
  • Update notes: For stories where we add new context or clarifying information, we append an “Update” note with the date and a brief explanation of what was added and why.

Minor errors – such as typographical mistakes, spelling errors, or grammatical gremlins that do not alter the meaning – are fixed silently. We do not add a correction note for these changes, but we still treat them seriously and correct them as soon as we are aware of them.

Response times

We aim to acknowledge every correction request within five working days. For straightforward, clearly documented errors, a correction may be published within that same timeframe. More complex cases – those that require additional fact-checking, source verification, or legal review – may take longer. If an investigation is needed, we will let you know and keep you updated on progress.

Serious errors

If an error is significant – for example, a major factual mistake in a high-profile story, a breach of our editorial standards, or an issue that could cause reputational or financial harm – it is escalated immediately to our Editor-in-Chief, Alexander Whitmore. Alexander oversees all serious corrections and ensures the appropriate corrective action is taken, which may include a formal apology or a full retraction in rare cases.

Transparency and accountability

We believe that a good corrections policy is part of a broader commitment to editorial integrity. To that end, we encourage you to read our Editorial Policy for a full picture of our standards, our Fact-Checking Policy for how we verify information before publication, and our Complaints Procedure for issues that go beyond a straightforward correction. If you have any further questions about this policy, feel free to contact our Standards & Fact-Checking team at corrections@dailycity.co.uk.

We value your trust – and we work hard to keep it, one corrected mistake at a time.
