Tip Us

Every day, decisions made in town halls, planning committees, transport authorities and council chambers shape how millions of people live, work and move around UK cities. A new housing development that blocks light from a community garden. A bus route quietly withdrawn. A licensing decision that changes the character of a high street. A pop-up market that transforms a disused car park. These are the stories that matter to your neighbours, your colleagues and your community — and we want to hear about them.

At DailyCity.co.uk, we cover London and major UK urban centres with a focus on local news, public affairs, transport, business, economy, property, culture, lifestyle, events, technology and consumer issues. Our readers rely on us for accurate, timely reporting on how local government decisions, transport changes, business developments, housing issues and cultural events affect people, companies and communities. You can help us do that better.

What makes a good city tip

A strong tip is specific, timely and rooted in something that affects daily life in a UK city. We are particularly interested in:

  • Council decisions and planning applications — major or controversial planning applications, local plan consultations, licensing hearings, council budget decisions, committee votes that affect public services or the built environment
  • Transport changes — route alterations, fare changes, station closures, cycle lane disputes, road safety issues, new infrastructure projects, disruption patterns that affect commuters
  • Housing developments — new build schemes, affordable housing disputes, regeneration projects, rent and leasehold issues, empty property concerns, community-led housing initiatives
  • Business openings and closures — independent shops, markets, restaurants, cafes, co-working spaces, retail chains entering or leaving a high street, factory or warehouse developments affecting local employment
  • Venue news and cultural events — theatre, music, nightlife, festivals, exhibitions, gallery openings, public art, venue closures or threats to cultural spaces
  • Things affecting daily life — air quality, public safety, street cleaning, park maintenance, noise complaints, litter, fly-tipping, pavement parking, school catchment changes, library closures, community centre funding

If you are unsure whether something is newsworthy, send it anyway. We would rather assess a tip that turns out to be minor than miss something important.
