Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure

How We Are Funded

DailyCity.co.uk is a reader-supported publication. Our operating costs — including salaries, office space, travel, technology and legal compliance — are covered through a mix of commercial revenue streams. We are wholly owned by City Ledger Media Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales. For full details of our ownership and funding structure, please see our Ownership & Funding page.

No single revenue source dictates our editorial direction. The commercial team operates independently of the newsroom, and all financial arrangements are transparently disclosed to our audience. Below we explain each funding model in detail.

Affiliate Links

Some articles on DailyCity.co.uk contain affiliate links. When you click on one of these links and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission — at no extra cost to you. This standard disclosure appears prominently near the relevant links or at the top of the article:

“This article contains affiliate links. DailyCity.co.uk may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you.”

We only recommend products, services and experiences that we genuinely believe will add value to our readers — whether that’s a city guide, a book about London’s history, or a practical item for navigating the Tube. Our editorial team chooses which affiliate products to feature based on merit, not commission rates. Affiliate income helps us keep the majority of our content free to access and supports original reporting across UK cities.

Display Advertising

We run standard display advertisements across the site, including banners, native ad units and sponsored slots in our newsletters. Ads are served by third-party networks and direct advertisers. We do not sell ad space that interferes with the readability or integrity of our journalism. All display ads are clearly labelled and distinguishable from editorial content. If you see an ad that appears misleading or inappropriate, please contact advertising@dailycity.co.uk.

Press Access, Review Copies & Event Tickets

From time to time our journalists receive complimentary access to events, review copies of books and products, or press tickets for theatre, concerts and exhibitions. This access is always disclosed in the relevant article or review, and it never influences our editorial verdict. For our full policy on how we handle review samples and press privileges, see our Reviews Policy.

Sponsored Content

We occasionally publish sponsored articles, branded content and commercial partnerships. These are created in collaboration with advertisers but are always clearly labelled as “Sponsored”, “Partner Content” or “Promoted” at the top of the page. Sponsored content is produced to our editorial standards and is fact-checked, but the commercial relationship is transparent. Under no circumstances do advertisers dictate the editorial conclusions of any piece. For the detailed rules governing such content, refer to our Sponsored Content Policy.

Advertising Never Controls Editorial

Our editorial independence is non-negotiable. The newsroom — led by Editor-in-Chief Alexander Whitmore and the reporting team — makes all decisions about what to cover, how to cover it, and what final verdict to reach. Advertisers, sponsors and commercial partners have no input into these decisions. Our Editorial Policy sets out the strict separation between commercial and editorial operations. The two teams work in different offices (or, when remote, on separate communication channels) and do not share information about upcoming coverage or business deals.

Operational Separation

City Ledger Media Ltd maintains firewalls between the advertising and editorial departments. Editorial staff never discuss individual stories with advertisers, and the commercial team never requests changes to published content. This structural division is overseen by the publisher and is regularly audited to ensure compliance. If you suspect a breach of this separation, please report it to compliance@dailycity.co.uk.

Contact Our Commercial Teams

We welcome questions from readers and potential partners. If you’d like to know more about how we make money and how we keep it separate from our journalism, we’re happy to discuss it. You can also find general contact details on our Contact page.
